What sort of Fringe suits my Face?

There is a fringe, or a variation of a fringe that will work for everyone. Fringes can be one of the most flattering additions to your hair style. Sometimes people cut a fringe in and struggle to manage it, and again, this is all down to miscommunication and lack of education from your stylist!

How a fringe sits on your face can depend on your hair type, but mostly on your face shape, so first things first, find out what shape your face is. One of the easiest way to do this is to go and see a hairstylist, or a make up artist and ask them. Alternatively, stand up straight in front of a mirror and trace the outline of your face to get a look at the shape.

Heart-shaped:  Think Reese Witherspoon.

Ask for a longer, layered fringe, you can wear in a side or a centre part. Heart shaped faces tend to be a bit smaller, with a broad forehead, strong cheekbones, and a small chin. A blunt one length fringe can make the chin sharper and draw attention to a large forehead.

Square: Think Nicole Richie

Avoid sharp, blunt fringe, instead go for a long eye grazing full fringe, but still slightly piecey with a slight bit of  tapering on the sides. This will add softness to a square face. The feathered centre and sides add femininity to the face.  You can get the curved edge on it by blowdrying with a circular brush.

Oval: Think Zooey Deschanel

The Oval Faceshape can actually rock any fringe! Lucky Girls. If Zooey Deschanel, aka the queen of fringes, (have you ever seen her without one?) is anything to go by, we favour the one length heavy fringe. So easy to wear as you can make it quite heavy which will keep it in place.

Round: Think Kirsten Dunst

With a cute and youthful round face, you need to keep your fringe side swept. Part it in the centre and you will draw attention to the roundness, and a heavy fringe will make your face look teeny. A nice deep parting, and slicked to one side is the best look for this. Its important to keep the fringe angular.

Fringe Styling Hacks:

1. When you cut a fringe in, your hair might be having to go a new direction, a new parting, or forward. It might take a little training.

2. Always blowdry your fringe in the direction you want it to go.

3. If you have a cows lick, you may need to straighten the offending part, but blowdry again to soften the fringe.

4. Hair Spray is your BEST FRIEND

5. Only bettered by DRY SHAMPOO.

6. Backcomb your fringe gently to give it some oomph.

7. A clean toothbrush sprayed with hair spray can be a handy styling tool

8. You can save time by just shampooing your fringe and  trying up your hair!
