‘I love the creative challenge of expressing someone else’s personality through their hair.'
Technique, craft, artistry and imagination. These are some of the facets that make hair styling an endlessly creative endeavour. They’re also the aspects that our Islington stylist Lucy both excels in and continues to perfect on a daily basis.
Given her levels of natural flair and commitment, it’s little wonder that before joining The Chapel, Lucy worked her way through a Sassoon diploma and up to the role of Assistant Creative Director at their Chelsea salon in a scant five years. Neither will it come as a surprise to learn that before embarking on a career as a stylist she had already gained her BA in Fine Art.
“After my degree, I ended up taking a make-up course in Soho. Working on models for shoots with experienced stylists got me into cutting and I discovered I had some ability and was lucky enough to be encouraged to nurture it by professional whose opinions I valued.” She explains modestly.
“I get a huge amount of satisfaction from styling hair; the sculptural elements really appeal to my creative side. To me, each haircut always feels like its own small, very personalised work of art, which is also really gratifying - and the best thing about working at The Chapel is the opportunities we get to hone and develop our creative skills.”
