How to do wavy hair

28 Mar 2019

Waves are more often than not one of the easiest (and chicest) hairstyles to do yourself, and there are several ways to wear them. Super versatile, feminine, and always on-trend, there are many different wavy styles to get creative with – here’s a select few:

Beach waves

The original beachy waves never seem to go out of style, and they’re easier than you think to recreate from the comfort of your own home.

First thing’s first, put in some prep time. Beachy waves tend to hold with hair that isn’t freshly washed, so leaving it a couple of days before attempting this look is usually the best way.

Style using a large barrel heated tong, wrapping thick sections around and holding for a few moments. If you have naturally wavy or curly hair, you could try just spritzing hair with water, and twirling with your fingers as it dries to get a textured, soft look. Then, finish with a textured spray – voila!

What’s even better is that beachy waves suit most hair lengths and shapes. If you need any extra help, next time you’re at the hair salon ask about how to get those sought-after waves, and they’ll be more than happy to help.

Wavy updos

Waves not only look chic on hair down, but you can also style them on up-dos, too. Try following the steps above for beach waves, but sweep the top half of your hair upwards and gently pin into a mini bun.

Alternatively, create those beachy waves and pop them in a thick, full pony. Great for going from your desk to the bar! Pinning your hair up in a loose bun, positioned about halfway down the back of your head, can help to soften sharper facial features, especially when framed with a couple of loose waves at the front.

Sweeping, glam waves

Glamorous waves are all about that high-shine - think 50s chic with a sweeping side style, and you’ll be right on track. This Hollywood-inspired look is perfect for a night on the town, a special party, or date night.

Glam waves can bring extra volume to those with thinner hair, and have the tendency to suit medium - shorter styles. Washing hair first works with this style. Follow by styling from halfway down the head with a heated tool, ensuring all waves are kept in place with a blast of hairspray, or high-shine styling cream for an ultra-smooth, sleek finish.
