The time of year has come again where we’ll do anything to be outdoors. Soaking up some essential vitamin D is essential for our mind, body and soul. And whilst the hustle and bustle of the streets of London can all be a bit too much in the summer heat, the capital’s rooftops are truly the place to be in the summertime. They provide us places to pause, take stock and enjoy this beautiful city for everything it has to offer. So, we spoke to Mark Palmer Salon director from our London salon for his favourite rooftop spots in the city – from beautiful boozy bars to simply stunning places to unwind.
Situated smack bang in the middle of trendy Dalston is the one and only, Dalston Roof Park. This is far more than simply a rooftop bar – it’s a rooftop venue for some of life’s greatest pleasures. Think casual drinks, with a small but well stocked and very reasonably priced bar. It’s a great place for a catch up with old mates on their comfy bean bags. For those who find a bit of dancing in their time of solace, their yearly calendar of cracking lineups is a must-look. Whether you’re into DnB, house, jungle or more chilled out indie vibes, they’ll have something for you. What’s more, they also have a great guest foodie in to feed the sun-soaked masses – it really does have it all. And finally, they also run their own yoga classes to really feel fully zen! Top tip – buy a yearly pass for £12 and you can cut the queue every time you visit.
This is one of Mark’s go-to rooftops. Regardless of the rooftop, The Boundary itself is a beautiful hotel from top to bottom. Located in the bustling hub of Shoreditch it is a great base for anyone looking to explore the city’s edgier offerings. The Boundary rooftop is truly beautiful– come rain or shine, giving every one of its visitors a brilliant view of London and the quirky streets of Shoreditch. What’s more, it offers a spectacular Mediterranean menu full of fresh produce. So if you’re looking to pair your rooftop experience with an unforgettable dining experience, this is the place to go!
Returning for the second year, Pergola on the roof, this time in the peaceful Paddington. Taking the same laid-back vibes of its Shepherd's Bush sister and places it right beside the charming canal. Within, you’ll find some delicious delights from the like of Patty & Bun and DF Mexico to gorge on whilst you take in the view. With greenery abundant, it’s a lovely secluded spot to chill with a cocktail or two with a close friend.
Once a place of industrious activity, East London’s Tobacco Docks is now one of London’s must-visit event spaces. Hosting numerous music, industry and food shows it’s a place that is now a thriving cultural hub. Tobacco Docks rooftop is the perfect place to take in it’s east London surroundings, to the tranquil views of the water and look over the lively scenes of East London.
And to finish, another of Mark’s summer spots. The Driver is the epitome of gastropubs – luxurious whilst still homely and comfortable. Go early in the day to indulge in their menu of delicious British classics. Then take to the rooftop – a Moroccan styled expansive rooftop which has plenty of seating for larger groups and, equally, intimate alcoves for romantic couples. When it comes to rooftops The Driver really does have it all: a great vibe, detectible food and drinks, friendly staff and a place to duck into just in case traditional British weather gets the better of us.
Wherever you are in London there is always a place to rise above the rush to find a moment for you. And these rooftops provide the perfect place to do just that. We would love to hear if you try any of our London recommendations, share your pictures with us over on our Twitter @TheChapelPlace.
